Chasing Daylight: Seize the Power of Every Moment

Just finished Chasing Daylight by Erwin McManus in preparation for our next series “30 Days to Live.” All I can say is you do not want to miss one week of this series and you need to bring as many people as you can to this series. This series is going to be huge in the life of a lot of people. So many of us live lives that are just wasting away, with no purpose, looking for our own glory and this series is going to help us sort through those things.

The book walks through 1 Samuel 13 & 14 looking at the life of Jonathan. Many of the ideas for this series come from this book. So if you are looking for something worth reading, you should pick this up.

McManus essentially looks at how to capitalize and take advantage of those divine moments that God puts into our paths everyday. We often miss them because we aren’t paying attention or looking for a bigger moment.

The thing that many of us miss is that we know what God’s purpose for our lives are. We have it right in front of our face in the Bible. We see the moments cross our paths that God calls us to fulfill. Yet, we consistently ask, “What does God want me to do with my life?” And it is right there. Open your eyes.

Here are some things that grabbed me:

  • Somehow we all know that to play it safe is to lose the game.
  • How we view God dramatically affects who we become. How we understand God to work directly affects the life we live in God.
  • One of the reasons that we are unprepared for the moment before us is that we’re stuck in the moment behind us.
  • The greatest danger that success brings, aside from arrogance, is the fear of losing what has been gained.
  • God rarely shows you the problem so that you can tell someone else about it.
  • The greatest opportunities require the highest risk.

I had read this book several years ago when I was in college, but it was great to pick it up again and read it through new eyes (a little older, hopefully a little wiser) and in a different place in life. I want that same passion, that I’m willing to do anything God calls me to. That’s what this next series is about.
